Side Effects Of A Healthy Lifestyle

February 13th, 2008

We always hear about side effects. From drugs to herbs to supplements. However, you may not have heard too much about one of the side effects that you really need to know.

The side effects of healthy living.

No, I'm not talking about being able to walk and run without getting out of breath. I'm talking about negative side effects from trying to live a healthy lifestyle. It is one of the things that actually makes it hard to live a healthy lifestyle. It even causes people to turn away from a healthy lifestyle because they don't understand the truth behind the side effects.

So what is the truth?

When people begin a healthy lifestyle, it is something that the body is not used to. The body has to adjust to the new environment. No need to worry; the body does a good job of adaptation. Lets look at what the body does when changing from the standard American diet to a healthy lifestyle.

One of the major problems is that the standard American diet loads the body up with toxins. There are so many toxins that the body of someone with an unhealthy lifestyle can't deal with all of them. So the body takes the toxins that it can't get rid of and just stores them in fat with the hopes that perhaps it can deal with them later. These toxins can be held in the fat stores for years. This explains part of the reason that so many people have so much excess fat these days.

The problem, then, is that when a person decides to start living a healthy lifestyle, the body sees it's opportunity to start trying to deal with all this garbage that it has been collecting for years. To deal with these fat stored toxins, the body breaks down the fat and works to flush the toxins out of the system. In so doing it releases these toxins back into the blood stream. This is why people who did drugs like LSD in the past can have drug induced hallucinations decades later even though they haven't used any drugs for years.

This is why people who start to live a healthy lifestyle will often get headaches, or nausea, or fever as the toxins are reintroduced into the system. Remember the body is trying to eliminate these toxins, so give it plenty of water and rest along with periodic exercise.

This is why doctors and nutritionists generally suggest to people to make changes gradually as they change to healthier ways of living. Too drastic of a change can be nearly overwhelming to a body that was previously filled with toxins.

People starting a new lifestyle may be rewarded with rashes or other similar challenges as the body tries to flush all the toxins out of the system.

If people only understood these natural side effects, they wouldn't quit trying to change to a healthy lifestyle quite so easily. Some people have actually decided that the healthy lifestyle is making them sick. Of course they are partially correct, but they don't understand that it is part of the healing process. If they can weather the storm, they will become much better off in the long run.

As your body goes through the cleansing process, baby it. Drink plenty of water. Get plenty of rest. Breathe deeply. Try to stay relaxed and think happy thoughts.

You can get through the side effects of a healthy lifestyle. Now that you understand them, don't be dissuaded from a better life by the initial challenges. Stick with it and you'll be clean and healthy in short order.

Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw foods), get plenty of sleep, breathe deeply and have a gratitude attitude.

Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it.
