Emphasizing Prevention?

March 7th, 2008

The colon cancer experts have just come out with new guidelines for screening for colon cancer. The disturbing part is they labeled these guidelines as "Emphasizing Prevention".

They have totally lost the meaning of the word prevention. The guidelines are only for tests that you go to your doctor to get. Then your doctor can let you know when you are in trouble. How is that prevention?

The medical community seems to be getting wackier and wackier. Or should I say quackier?

Prevention means that you do something proactive to avoid ever having a problem. In the case of colon cancer, prevention would mean living a healthy lifestyle so that you always have a healthy colon. Why can't the medical community tell you that if you eat good whole raw fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as drinking plenty of good clean water, you will have a healthy colon.

It isn't hard to do, you just have to do it. Dump the processed foods, eliminate as many toxins from your environment as possible, eat well, get some exercise nearly everyday, and drink plenty of water.

If you are trying to clean out your system after years of eating the standard American diet of processed foods, then I define 'plenty of water' in this way: Take your body weight in pounds and divide by 10. The resulting number is a good goal for the number of cups of water you should drink in a day.

If you have already got your body mostly cleaned out of the toxins and junk, then divide your weight by 15 instead of 10.

Let me reiterate. Medical tests are not prevention. No matter how often you run tests to see if you have some disease, it is not prevention. When you finally get some disease and it shows up on the test, then the doctors will prescribes some drug for you to take, or radiation treatments, or surgery to cut something out of your body. That is not prevention. Prevention means that you take some action that precludes you from ever getting sick.

A healthy lifestyle is prevention.

Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw foods), get plenty of sleep, breathe deeply and have a gratitude attitude.

Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it.
