Drugs Are Scary!

July 21st, 2008

The other day I was watching TV and saw an advertisement for a drug that was was supposed to help people who were in danger of prostate problems. As it got to the second half of the ad, where they start to give the precautions, I said to myself, "People who use this drug must not listen to these commercials."

As it continued to talk about terrible health problems (including death) that the proper use of this drug might possibly cause, I thought back on other similar ads I've seen for other drugs. It seems that people are willing to take drugs that promise a possibility of help for what ails them, without regard for the dangers associated with those drugs.

It made me realize that most people must ignore the precautions given about drugs. Why are they willing to do this? Many people take drugs for something as simple as indigestion, while ignoring that these drugs can cause kidney failure, liver failure, ulcers, vomiting, and even death. The excuse is that these side effects are very rare.

The problem is that no matter how rare a side effect might be, it can still be devastating to one who suffers it.

Let's review what drugs are and how they are made:

Scientific studies reveal that a certain substance helps to promote health in someway.

Drug companies take whatever that substance is (usually a plant) and break it down.

They test each of the components of the substance to see which part causes the effect.

Then they concentrate that particular part of the plant and put it into a pill or capsule.

A new drug is born.

The problem is that even though a plant may have been health promoting, the concentration of a particular part of it makes a substance that is no longer balanced in it's effect on the human body.

The original plant was balanced by nature (God) to be good for the human body. In a concentrated form it actually becomes a poison. This is why doctors are supposed to be in charge of our intake of drugs, because they are poisons. Unfortunately the same is true of many if not most supplements that people take. Concentrations of a particular substance are almost never a good idea for the human body.

So how do we keep the body in balance? M.D.s will tell you that that is what they are doing by managing your intake of drugs. The problem is that they don't actually understand enough about the drugs or about the human body to be able to realistically do such a thing. All they can do is wait and see what kind of problem a drug causes you and then prescribe another drug to compensate for that one. Then wait to see what problems that one causes and so on ....

Why not let nature keep your body in balance. Eat all the good foods that God has created for us and enjoy life. The more studies that are done, the more we learn that if people will just eat whole fresh foods, drink good clean water, breath fresh air, exercise regularly, work to serve your fellow man, get a good nights rest, smile and give gratitude, the miraculous human body will take very good care of us for a very long time.

Remember that health comes from within. We need to give our bodies the resources that they need to take care of themselves.

Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw foods), get plenty of sleep, breathe deeply and have a gratitude attitude.

Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it.
