Artificial Flavors, Colors & SweetenersMarch 26th, 2008
All kinds of things get added to packaged foods to help enhance taste and/or visual acceptability. But what most people don't understand is that most of them are not healthy.
Artificial flavoring and coloring have been consistently shown to cause hyperactivity in children. Most artificial sweeteners have proven to be even worse for the human body than the sugar they are supposed to replace. Of course, the food industry denies nearly all of these claims. They continue to insist that it is all safe. The food industry continues to find ways to make food more desirable and addictive. By adding different chemical concoctions, they get us hooked on their products. The problem is that in so doing they destroy the goodness of the food. They cause imbalance in foods that used to be balanced by nature. Food that used to contribute to health, now detracts from health as it causes imbalances in the system. As you are reading food labels, watch out for artificial flavorings and artificial colorings. Also avoid artificial sweeteners. Real food doesn't need to be sweetened. Fruit and vegetables and grains and nuts are delicious when eaten in their natural state. Also, watch out for preservatives that are added to food. It may make the food last longer, but food that can't spoil is most likely no longer alive. Live food can give life. Dead food can not. Eat live food whenever possible. The other important things to watch out for on food labels is any kind of “hydrogenated oil” and “high fructose corn syrup”. Both are toxins to the human body. Also watch out for any thing that says it is enriched. That generally means that it has been processed to death, and then they try and make up for it by adding a few vitamins. Then they call it enriched. Food is always better the way that nature makes it. When man tries to micro-manage stuff, he always messes it up. Because his understanding is always incomplete. Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw foods), get plenty of sleep, breathe deeply and have a gratitude attitude. Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it. Coach G. Success in health comes from lifestyle described here.
